However, baby hippos sometimes are eaten by other animals when they stray away from their mothers.
Crocodiles, lions and hyenas all sometimes eat young hippos if they are able to attack them without being attacked themselves by the adults in the baby hippo’s herd.
That’s why baby hippos try to stay close to their mothers.
